One of the best parts of scuba diving is sharing what you've seen with your friends & family. However, if they've
stayed "dry" while you dove, you'll need to bring back photographs or video!
Huron Scuba offers three types of
Underwater Photography classes plus one
Videographer class:
PADI Level
1 Digital Underwater Photographer
certification:
This classroom and pool
course gets you familiar with choosing,
using, caring for, and shooting with a
digital camera with underwater housing.
Hands-on practice on "dry land" and in
the pool emphasize the "SEA Method" -
Shoot, Examine, Adjust. You'll practice
the dive techniques that lead to great
pictures while not being hard on the
environment. You'll learn how to use
manual white balance to improve color in
your underwater photos. Limited digital
camera rentals available ($50/day for
camera/housing); rental fees may be
applied towards purchase of camera from
Huron Scuba within 7 days of class.
PADI Level 2 Digital Underwater
Photographer certification:
This course
includes two open water dives and
post-dive digital photo workflow
workshop. Building on the basics covered
in the Level 1 certification, you'll get
practice adjusting exposure through the
use of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO
values. You'll "focus" on getting sharp
pictures underwater while composing
memorable images. External strobe use is
introduced, including the use of strobe
angles and power levels. After the dive,
your instructor will take you through
the digital photography workflow -
downloading and organizing your images
and making basic adjustments using photo
editing programs. Limited digital camera
rentals available ($100/day for camera
with housing, strobe and wide angle
lens); rental fees may be applied
towards purchase of camera from Huron
Scuba within 7 days of class.
Underwater Photo
Workshop:
This workshop is a personalized learning opportunity, meets for one class and pool session,
and does not result in a certification card. Use of basic point-and-shoot film camera included for pool sessions
(student provides 1 roll 36 exposure 35mm ASA400 film and two AA batteries). Or, bring your own digital or film camera.
Private classes available!
Underwater Video
Introductory
Workshop:
This program introduces
the diver to strategies for becoming an
underwater videographer. Information
includes care and maintenance, shot
selection and implementation, lighting,
forming a storyline, and editing
theories. This one night program may be
extended for full PADI Underwater
Videographer Specialist certification
with two open water dives and costs to
be determined for each particular
situation.
If you have some underwater photo
experience but want to improve your
results, you can sign up for the Level 2
Digital Underwater Photography
certification and either participate in
the Level 1 course, or review your prior
experience with the Instructor and
complete the Level 1 Knowledge Review to
"test out" of Level 1.
