PADI Instructor

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. During the IDC or Instructor Development Course (of which the first phase is the Assistant Instructor Course (AI) and the second phase is the Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI)), you’ll learn to use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to individual student needs. Comprehensive training, supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials, earns PADI Instructors respect from both students and peers.

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating sets you apart from the crowd. PADI Instructors may conduct the entire range of PADI programs – from Discover Scuba through Divemaster. PADI Instructors do things others can only daydream about. If you want to live an extraordinary life, you’re in the right place.

How is the course structured?

  • Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
  • Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations
  • After completion of the Instructor Development Course, you need to successfully complete the PADI Instructor Examination to become a certified Instructor.

What can I do once I’m a PADI Instructor?

  • Teach scuba diving from the PADI Seal Team for Kids, to Open Water Diver, to Rescue Diver and Divemaster.
  • Share your love of diving with customers at a local dive center, at a resort, on a live aboard dive boat, or in a university setting. You can even teach independently.
  • Teach people how to dive – not just beginners, but also show divers how to expand their skills and knowledge to experience new things in diving.
  • Guide trips to exotic dive destinations.
  • Expand your own skills and the courses you can teach by becoming a Specialty Instructor, working up to become a Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT), IDC Staff Instructor, or Master Instructor.

Why should I take the PADI Instructor Development Course at Huron Scuba?

  • Huron Scuba has been recognized three years in a row as one of the USA’s top dive centers, in large part because of the strength of its dive education offerings.
  • The instructional team at Huron Scuba has teaching experience at a nationally recognized dive center, in university level programs,  community programs, Handicap Scuba Association programs, volunteer and public safety programs and also as part of a train and travel program.
  • Input from instructors with a wide variety of teaching experiences makes you better prepared to successfully complete the Instructor Examination (IE).
  • You’ll learn how to deal with real environmental factors in the Midwestern environment (such as colder temperatures, lower visibility, and more lead on your student-divers), resulting in a more rigorous preparation for teaching both at “inland” and tropical locations.
  • After the course and your successful completion of an IE, you’ll be qualified to teach worldwide.
  • Huron Scuba’s Teaching Team is always looking for top quality instructors, and those who complete their Instructor Development at Huron Scuba get first consideration for openings.
  • Certification Results Guaranteed: Every Instructor Candidate trained at Huron Scuba has passed their Instructor Examination (IE) on the first attempt. If you don’t, you’ll get a free repeat of the Huron Scuba IDC within 12 months of your first one.
